Maintenance Tips for your whirlpool Bath

How do I clean & maintain a whirlpool bath?
Simple, just keep the bath clean as you normally would and sterilise every month or so (dependent on use). Because a whirlpool re-circulates water from within the bath it is very easy to periodically add a specially formulated cleanser to a bath full of water and re-circulate it through the whole system.

The use of soaps, bubble bath additives, shampoos, conditioners etc in your whirlpool bath can all contribute to the build up of bath deposits inside the pipework. Substances such as Body oils, skin, soap scum, and general grime can be quite difficult to shift if it is allowed to build up over time. Any organic build up inside the pipelines can encourage the growth of bacteria which, if not treated, may result in an unhygienic system.

The conditions inside the whirlpool pipework are warm and damp, which is the ideal environment to harbour bacteria. It is vital therefore that the pipework is flushed out regularly with specialist whirlpool cleaning and sanitising products in order to help reduce any build up of bath deposits and minimise the growth of bacteria.

What can I do to limit the build up of bath deposits inside the pipework?

Make sure you use specialist whirlpool cleaning & sanitising products on a regular basis.  If polluted pipework is allowed to dry out over a long period of time, the residue can dry onto the pipes and be even more difficult to remove.

I often use my whirlpool as a normal bath, do I still have to clean it?

Yes, even if the whirlpool bath is used as a normal bath tub and the whirlpool isn't activated, the pipework will still get flooded with bath water. This means that soaps, bubble baths etc. will leave a residue inside the pipework when the bath water is drained. If this build up is not removed it may encourage bacterial growth.

Can I circulate dishwasher detergents through my system to clean it?

No, detergents designed to clean dishes are not formulated to clean jetted whirlpool bathtubs.  Normal household detergents should not be used to clean as they can harm your system, and liquid sanitisers are just not strong enough to kill powerful bacteria.

Maintenance Tips for your whirlpool Bath:

  1. Prevention is better than Cure: Start your whirlpool Cleaning regime as soon as possible. If you prevent a build up of bath deposits from forming inside the pipe work of your whirlpool you will enjoy trouble free bathing for longer. Don't wait until you have a problem before using cleaning products.
  2. Do not use abrasive bathroom cleaners or household detergents - especially on chrome or gold fittings: Abrasive or harsh products may damage the chrome or gold finish on your whirlpool fittings.
  3. Keep bleach away from Chrome & Gold fittings: Harsh products such as bleach may damage the chrome or gold finish on your whirlpool fittings.
